Keshet Corner
Monthly Message from Keshet Pride Co-Chairs, Rory Martin and Becca Herman Jews have had an enormous impact on the world, but sometimes it is difficult to connect with that legacy – especially if you’re queer. October is LGBTQIA+ History Month; a time to reflect upon our past, make and strengthen connections within our community, and educate ourselves and others. Educating ourselves is empowering, inspiring, thought-provoking, and comforting – and it combats queer erasure, a significant problem throughout history.
October 11th celebrated National Coming Out Day. This day can be difficult for some, but it also serves as a day of inspiration and appreciation. For some, it is a time set apart, a goal—for others, it evokes bitter, painful memories. Safe spaces are needed now more than ever, especially for LGBTQIA+ youth. This November, challenge yourself to be that safe space for someone in our community. Offer a listening ear, emotional support, or a helping hand.
