Thank you for your flexibility this morning with our weather cancellation. Our process is that members of our Youth Education committee, with Rabbi Finestone, Tara (Executive Director), and myself drive around and discuss. As today's driver, I can tell you that at 7am, it was unsafe for our teachers to start making the trek to Har Shalom to prepare for class. And I wasn't confident that the roads would be any better at 9am for you. We are looking at ways to bring additional learning time for our students and will update you soon; plus reviewing our weather policy. We will keep you posted!
Are you looking for support regarding the tragic events in Israel? Please visit www.nocoharshalom.org. As always, please reach out to me, Rabbi Finestone, Tara, and Judy for additional resources.
We are a week away from our first shuk (market) of the year. If you have any toys, books, leftover Halloween candy, etc, we would love your donations! Also, take a look at our Amazon list for shuk wishes.

Synagogue & Community News
From Our Teachers
Kitah Gimel (Third Grade) Wednesday from Morah Whitney, subbing for Morah Robin- In Kitah Gimel, we talked about "k'doshim t'hiyu" and what it means to act holy towards others. We discussed the lesson in Leviticus 19:14 "You shall not curse a deaf person, and you shall not place a stumbling block in front of a blind person. And you shall fear G-d. I am Adonai." As a demonstration of what this could mean in real life, we did a trust walk activity, where the kids took turns being blindfolded and being guided around by a friend. After that, we came back together to discuss how it felt to rely on another to make sure you are safe and what it felt like to help a friend who could not see. We also worked on Lesson 5 in their Hebrew workbooks and reviewed the vowels "ah" and "ee".
Kitah Dalet (Fourth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Merav- Everyone worked hard on their Hebrew. Part of the class is still working hard to master their Aleph-Bet. We are working on them out of order as well as on our wall. The rest of Kitah Dalet keeps working on reading words on our word wall. I keep adding words. The class is getting great at reading and also defining the words on our wall. I missed seeing everyone on Sunday but hope you all enjoyed the snow day! See you Wednesday!
Wednesday for Morah Sophie- After learning the location of each Israeli city last week, we went into depth this week. We started by reading a book about Jerusalem. It discusses the old city and the new city along with all of the main landmarks. Then, we made projects of Jerusalem!
Kitah Hay (Fifth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Lauren- On Wednesday, we had super fun and everyone got shekles for amazing reading in Hebrew. We reviewed prepositions and learned new vocabulary. We started flash cards for bingo and continued an art project. We hope to see more friends this week.
Kitah Vav (Sixth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Leah- After T’fillah we began in our classrooms with talking about how G-d can be revealed to us. We made masks - a way that we an show (or not show) parts of ourselves. These were then used as covers to our folders we are going to use for our study of TeNaKh (the Jewish Bible in total ); we focus on the Khetuvim this year. After our break we worked on Hebrew using the THINK-PAIR-SHARE method. Shavua Tov (a good week to you all).
Kitah Zayin (Seventh Grade) Wednesday from Rabbi Finestone- During the first part of class, we continued the discussion from Sunday, where we talked about the mosaic floor in the northern Israeli city of Sephoris, and the importance of the city in early rabbinic history. The students finished their own mosaics and I hope everyone enjoyed their artistry! For the second half of class, we continued chapter 2 of the Topical Bible, which focuses on accepting personal responsibility. We discussed in greater detail the story of Adam and Eve, and talked about the different parts of our lives where people are trying to influence us to do the wrong thing( like the serpent). Much of this discussion, as you would guess, centered on the Internet and on social media.
