Synagogue & Community News
From Our Teachers Beresheet (Preschool) We will be back for Day 6 of Creation on March 31! Land animals and people!
Sunday's Purim Celebration! We had the most wonderful (and exhausting) day at HSRS. We couldn't have done it without our teachers and volunteers. I appreciate all of you!!! We celebrated by following the 4 mitzvot of Purim.
Enjoy a feast- We made Hamantaschen! Some made them home; others were immediately in your child's belly
Gifts for Friends- Hot chocolate jars were assembled and meant be given to a friend.
Gifts for those in need- Your child came home with kits to give to those who are experiencing homelessness. Keep those in your car and consider giving those in need.
Hear the Megillah- not only did our teachers/madrichim read to our students, but Rabbi Finestone told us the story using Star Wars characters.
Kitah Gimmel (Third Grade) Wednesday from Morah Robin- Kitah Gimmel spent the evening learning about the holiday and traditions of Purim. We discussed Purim concepts and read “The Story of Esther”. After a short break outside, we made DIY Purim Crowns and Groggers while enjoying Hamentaschen!!
Kitah Dalet (Fourth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Merav- After our pizza party and T’filah, I challenged everyone with new Hebrew words on our word wall! The Kitah did great with these new words. We also celebrated 3 birthdays in our Kitah! They were all born on the same day! One was not with us Wednesday, but we wish her a very Happy Birthday. The other two brought in some yummy treats. Thank you for sharing your birthday celebration with us! Coming up we have our Kitah Dalet and Kitah Hey lead Shabbat Service on April 20. Please mark your calendars. Also, please let us know if you and your child will be here, we are going to be assigning parts to the students. Todah Raba!
Wednesday from Morah Sophie- We were able to write notes and practice presenting our personal tribes so that we could continue into other topics.
Kitah Hay (Fifth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Lauren- Kita Hay on Wednesday studied the v’ahafta by playing concentration. They also worked on reading fluency. This coming Wednesday, we will start our mitzva project, painting pots to make a plant gift for elderly people in hospice.
Kitah Vav (Sixth Grade) Wednesday from Morah Debbie, subbing for Morah Leah- I had the pleasure of subbing for Morah Leah at Hebrew school. After T'filah, we began class with a Hebrish sheet about what we did during Spring break. We then learned the first line of Sim Shalom. After break, we performed a Purim play together. Also, in order to encourage Shabbat service attendance -- particularly on Zoom -- I gave the students PopTarts with the Zoom number for services on it. Now, the kids have a treat to munch on while listening to services (the very best way to prepare for leading services when they become b'nai mitzvah). Thanks for sharing your students with me!
Kitah Zayin (Seventh Grade) Wednesday from Rabbi Finestone- We spent the first half of class reviewing and discussing the four mitzvot of Purim, including giving gifts to each other, and making gifts for the poor. For the second half of class, we literally fulfilled this first one by helping to assemble the Purim boxes that were distributed to the entire community during Purim.
From Our Specials News from the Sifriyah (Library) Books for checkout in the foyer are Purim and "mighty girl" books. Be like Esther!
